It’s Okay To Be A Happy Pumpkin On Halloween!

Why this book?

Don’t want to raise a people pleaser? Even if we try hard not to, we have no control over the world around that can make a child start thinking if they need to act any differently than who they are, in order to ‘fit in’ or to get accepted. Considering the peer pressure and pressure that an “accepted normal” can cause a child to lose their self-worth at times, (though every child is unique and perfect in their own way), this is a must-have book in a child’s home library.

What is the right age to read “The Happy Pumpkin“?

This is a children’s book that you can start reading from 0 months and enjoy it till they do. Honestly, we as parents enjoy this book as a great reminder for ourselves to stick to our principle of not in any way pressuring the child to please external situations/people so they can fit in.

What I loved about “The Happy Pumpkin“:

“The Happy Pumpkin” is a children’s book which is also a great reminder and assurance for all of us that:

  1. Being who we are is when we shine our brightest.
  2. You need not “please” other people in order to feel “accepted”.
  3. It is okay to feel negative emotions like “fear”.
  4. Siblings can have totally different preferences, and that is perfectly fine!
  5. Boys and girls, you need not act “tough”. If you feel fear, that is perfectly normal.

How I Found “The Happy Pumpkin“:

I could not stop checking this one book for my 16-month-old from our nearest library when I saw the title “The Happy Pumpkin” with the cover of a super happy-looking pumpkin, in a Halloween setting.

The moment I turned a few pages I was very sure that we needed it, our little one needed it.

How My Toddler Enjoyed This Book:

When Baby I learned a number of new words from this book and also loves to hear the last line of the book, which is : “Because we shine our brightest when we are just who we are”. Whenever she hears someone say the word “because” she remembers this line and prompts us to say it out loud.

This is also a reminder for us caregivers about unconditional acceptance and unconditional love which I believe matters most in raising confident and happy children.

When our little one picks up this book every time and brings it to me to read, even after reading it a zillion times to her, I never once felt tired to read it again. We then realized it would be great to have this book with us in baby I’s book collection so ordered one online and returned the book we had, to the library back.
